The Norwegian statistics agency SSB said on Monday that this corresponds to a massive 87.2 percent increase from the previous year. Goods worth 1.0 trillion crowns were imported. This gives Norway a trade surplus of around 1.6 trillion kronor (about 150 billion francs) – almost three times the surplus in 2021.
Statisticians identified natural gas exports as the main reason for the enormous increase. This nearly tripled year-on-year to a value of SEK 1.36 billion, accounting for more than half of the total export value in 2022.
Accordingly, in 2021, 117.7 billion cubic meters of gaseous natural gas was exported, an increase of 3.3 percent compared to 2021. This corresponded to the second highest export volume after 2017 on record year. crude oil is worth around 549 billion kronor, 54.8 percent more than in 2021. The volume of oil exports fell 3 percent.
In 2022, energy prices had skyrocketed mainly due to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. SSB foreign trade statistician Therese Vestre said the main reason for the price increase was reduced access to Russian gas.
