This is a declaration of war. Climate activists of the “WEF WEF” collective, who protest on the occasion of the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos every year, write “Fuck WEF” on Instagram. Not just massive CO2– The exile caused by the arrival of the invited elites in their private jets is a thorn for them. In principle, it is bad to give a platform to those responsible for “many of the problems of our time”.
Climate activists speak of a “lack of democracy” and a “lack of will” to reimagine established economic concepts and values - this is hindering the transition to a sustainable, just world.
On Saturday and Sunday, activists go on a sanctioned strike march. On their website, they clearly state that there are rules for all participants. No violence or property damage. “Our walk should reflect a picture of diversity, creativity and openness.” There will also be creative theater and clowning in the flash mob, as has been said on social media. Activists also find a music box and paint with sidewalk chalk.
Politicians take to the streets
And this is not the only demo. Juso Graubünden will also protest at the weekend. “Southeast Switzerland” had already reported the corresponding request from the local authorities, and then the young politicians wanted to hold a rally in Davos town hall square. This is confirmed, as the canton of Graubünden now reports to Blick on request.
Other actions, such as the photo exhibition, have been approved, says André Kraske, from the office of the Graubünden government’s WEF committee. However, preparations were made for the rallies. “The cantonal police of Graubünden and their partners ensure the safety of visitors.”
The army will be ready
Around 3000 guests from the worlds of business, politics and science are expected to attend Davos WEF this year. Between 200 and 300 of them are heads of state, ministers and representatives of international organizations protected by international law. Switzerland is obliged by law to ensure their protection.
The police in Graubünden receive support from the army. The canton and municipality bear most of the cost of the security measures. Nearly nine million people were victimized for police protection alone. The federal government supports it with 2.55 million per year. (two)
