Presto Presse-Vertriebs AG, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, has to reduce the number of employees at Biel BE. 48 employees had to leave after just four months.
Presto employees have been distributing the advertising magazine Consumo in the Biel region since September last year. According to the Post, the crowd was so large here and there that newspapers were not distributed in time. That’s why Presto created a day tour as a solution.
Other regions also affected
The Post wrote that this day tour was “economically unsustainable” and as a result Post must deliver the magazine in the Biel region from 1 April. This is already the case in other regions.
The 48 affected employees do this work on a small part-time basis. In total, these represent 8.5 full-time positions at Presto that are expected to be eliminated.
Syndicom demands layoffs to continue working
Syndicom union reacted to possible layoffs and called on those involved to continue working at Presto and for a “progressive” social plan.
The postal carriers concerned were notified of the situation on Wednesday, according to the Post notification. A consultation process involving Syndicom will continue until 31 January. (SDA/what)
