Crazy prices for latest mattresses in Davos

Deciding to go to the World Economic Forum (WEF) soon is an expensive idea. About a week before the start of the world famous forum, Davos is completely filled. The last free beds are offered at exorbitant prices.

You can find basic accommodation with beds for CHF 25,000 per week on the Airbnb housing platform. The same apartments are sometimes offered ten times cheaper in the summer. The same picture can be seen on the booking platform Booking.com.

The market decides

“We assume occupancy will be like 2020 again: occupied in hotels and holiday apartments,” Reto Branschi (63), Director of Destination Davos-Klosters, tells “Ajour”. Anyone still looking for a bed only gets a last minute chance.

According to Branschi, the problem with the high prices lies primarily in the holiday apartments, where the owners themselves are able to bid. “We can only advise and remind you that excessive prices jeopardize the continued existence of DEF,” Branschi told Ajour. Hotels will reserve 80 percent of the seats for DEF attendees while also offering affordable rates. Prices for the remaining one-fifth are determined by the market. (lui)
