Total financial requirements in the EU, Switzerland, the UK and Norway amount to 302 billion euros per year, according to research published Thursday in the journal Nature Climate Change. This corresponds to an increase in annual investment requirements of 87 billion euros.
“This is a significant increase that has to happen very quickly,” said ETH researcher Lena Klaassen when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency. The most serious investment needs are in renewable power plants, power grids and railway infrastructure.
For this calculation, scientists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ) in Zurich evaluated data from studies by governments, industry and science.
