A mild winter so far, well-stocked reservoirs and gas storage facilities: the energy crisis seems postponed to 2023. The Swiss population nevertheless did their homework. Generali concludes from his survey, available only to Blick, that “The Federal Council’s call for energy savings (Editor’s note: in August 2023) has reached the majority of the population.”
The vast majority of Swiss people plan to save energy efficiently this winter, according to the insurer representative survey conducted from 16 to 22 November. This probably has something to do with the fact that one in two people fears an energy crisis and related power outages, according to the survey. “Low-income people and people from western Switzerland and Ticino are more afraid,” he continues. The key results from the survey are:
one
Who is most afraid of…
… is afraid of the cold in the living room in winter. The second biggest fear for men is the loss of communication associated with power outages and the lack of lighting for women.
2
Reasons for no fear
They are divided: women consider the probability of a power outage to be quite low. Men are more likely to think that the power crisis has been exaggerated by the media.
3
where to waive
As for bathing, the Swiss already practice fasting. They enter the tub less than in previous years. However, they are not willing to lower the temperature while showering.
4
save hot water
In addition to body washing, most respondents save hot water by cooking with the right amount of water, washing clothes at a low temperature, and using economy settings on the dishwasher and washing machine.
5
More savings
According to the research, most Swiss already ventilate properly to save energy. Three-quarters of respondents keep radiators empty and heat less. However, almost a quarter do not turn off power strips when they are not in use, and do not plan to do so, even though it is recommended by the Federal Council as a cost-saving measure.
6
principal responsible
And who is responsible for the energy crisis? The interviewees point to the Ukraine-Russia war as the main reason for this. In connection with this, politicians are often called criminals. For most Swiss, the responsibility for finding a solution to the energy crisis rests with the Federal Council.
