In Switzerland, more than a quarter of a million jobs were vacant in the last quarter of 2022. A particularly large number of jobs are advertised for maintenance personnel and electricians.
According to an assessment published Wednesday by human resources firm x28, 264,069 open positions were posted as of November 15 in the fourth quarter of 2022. That’s a good 12,000 more than three months ago. About 10 percent of job postings are for managers.
Best for emergency nurses
Nurses (6995) have the widest range of jobs, followed by electricians (6000) and software developers (3917). Regarding individual companies, retailer Coop (3006) in particular is desperately looking for new staff – it’s still a long way off. But according to “Jobradar”, there are also many vacancies in the city of Zurich (660), Hosenbach-Ochsner (487) and Migros Cooperative Aare (467).
From a cantonal perspective, most jobs can be found in Zurich (59,318), followed by the canton of Bern (42,280). However, Aargau (20,665), St. Gallen (17.370) and Lucerne (16.703) also have a large number of vacancies. In western Switzerland, the canton of Vaud (10,682) is at its peak.
At the end of each quarter, the x28 staffing company evaluates all job postings found on job portals and company websites using a so-called “web spider.” About half of the job postings are posted by personnel service providers, and the other half are available on companies’ websites. (SDA/shq)
