The biannual construction price index of the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) increased by 3.2 percent for the period from April 2022 to October 2022 (October 2020 = 100), reaching an index level of 112.7 points. As prices rose in the previous period as well, there is an 8.3 percent year-on-year increase over the 12-month period, as BFS announced on Monday.
The increase in building construction (+3.2%) compared to the previous half is mainly due to the high prices in the “Superstructure 1” area (master craftsmanship). Prices for “shell construction 2” (windows, exterior doors, doors) and “additional 1” (metal construction work) have also increased, but to a lesser extent.
From a regional perspective, prices rose the most in Zurich (4.6%) and eastern Switzerland (+3.4%).
According to BFS, “road construction” (superstructure, earthworks and infrastructure) in particular became more expensive in civil engineering (+3.3%) compared to the previous half. Price increases for “fees” were somewhat more moderate.
Here too, prices rose the most in the Zurich region (+4.9%), followed by Northwest Switzerland (+4.7%).
