It’s snowing all the way to the plains outside and it’s very cold – so nothing really summer reminder. But spring is definitely coming, and even the mere thought of vacations and beaches can help you get through the cold season. Edelweiss and Swiss have released their flight plans for summer 2023. So you can at least plan your next break in the heat.
Blick shows which destinations will be added and where international flight connections will be established or removed in summer 2023.
Three new destinations
Akureyri (Iceland), Biarritz (F) and Bari (I) – these are the three new destinations in the Edelweiss summer schedule. Especially Akureyri stands out. The little-known city is located in the north of Iceland. It is now offered as an alternative route to the capital Reykjavik. With its breathtaking nature and volcanoes, Iceland is becoming more and more popular during the summer months.
Two new destinations on the European mainland are also being added to the flight plan, with Biarritz and Bari. Biarritz is considered a surfer’s Mecca on the French Atlantic coast, and Bari and southern Italy will thrive in the summer of 2023. In addition, destinations that were previously offered only in winter will now be served in summer as well. For example Cape Verde and Jordan.
Popular destinations Greece, the Canary Islands and Cyprus will also serve with more flights in the summer of 2023. Links with Scotland and North Africa, in particular Morocco and Tunisia, will also be expanded. As a result, Edelweiss will offer short-haul flights to 63 destinations in 21 countries next summer. That’s 19 additional short-haul destinations compared to summer 2019.
Long-distance travel is making a comeback
Popular destinations USA, Costa Rica and the Caribbean are served more frequently. There are also direct flights from Zurich to the Caribbean during the main holiday seasons. Flights to Denver (USA) and Vancouver (Canada) will also be more frequent during the summer months. In total, Edelweiss offers long-haul flights to 21 destinations in 15 countries.
“Dolce Vita” and city excursions
A few weeks ago, Swiss announced its summer flight schedule. It focuses on Italy in the short distance segment. A total of 161 services are provided per week to Rome, Bologna, Brindisi, Florence, Milan, Naples, Palermo and Venice destinations.
The city of Bristol in the south of England will already be in Switzerland’s plans this winter. Bristol is now open during the summer months and is noted for its pubs and culture. In addition, links with Copenhagen will be expanded. Copenhagen is considered the city with the highest quality of life in the world and offers many cuisines and cultures.
Destinations in the Baltic States were already very popular in 2022. Next summer, Swiss will once again offer regular flights to Tallinn and Vilnius. The Lufthansa subsidiary will not change anything in terms of destinations on long-haul routes next summer.
