Tens of thousands of British postmen are on strike!

The dispute between the postal and telecom workers’ union (CWU) and the employer – as in many other industries in the UK – has been smoldering for some time.

Workers are demanding wage increases commensurate with the rise in consumer prices. They are also concerned about the safety of their jobs: Royal Mail wants to save 10,000 jobs by next summer, and as many as 6,000 layoffs will be feared. Banners saying “Save Our Royal Mail” that some strikers brought with them to the protest before Parliament.

Brits sometimes have to wait longer for their Christmas mail and packages. The post asked the population to send shipments early, before the holidays. Before Christmas, the workers want to go on strike for a few more days.
