Salary hike at SBB

This is not a bad deal! SBB railway staff will receive 1.8 percent higher salaries in 2023. In addition, 0.5 percent of the payroll has one-off rated bonuses and 1.0 percent of the individual salary adjustment fund.

SBB is therefore implementing measures totaling 3.3 percent of the salary bill, as stated in the announcement. This corresponds to an order of magnitude more than 80 million francs. The measures also apply to SBB Cargo.

intense negotiations

The railway company explained that the negotiations were intense and demanding. After the pandemic, SBB is in a tight financial situation due to, among other things, a drop in passenger traffic. Recently, they created a six-month loss of CHF 142 million. To provide financing by 2030, SBB wants to save six billion francs.

The social partners expressed their satisfaction. In the statement they wrote that the deal is good for both the lowest wages and the cadres. “The priority for us was that the raises were permanent, not a one-time bonus.”

Social partners include the Transport Personnel Union (SEV), Service-Public-Personalverband Transfair, Swiss Locomotive Drivers and Apprentices Association (VSLF) and the Public Transport Management Association (KVöV). (SDA/pbe)
