Twitter boss Elon Musk (51) accuses Apple of wanting to kick the text messaging service from the App Store. Musk wrote on Monday: “Apple has also threatened to ban Twitter from the App Store, but won’t tell us why.” The tweet is addressed to Apple boss Tim Cook (62).
Musk claims that Apple has almost completely stopped advertising on Twitter. The Twitter boss is outraged and writes: “Do you hate freedom of speech in America?”
Musk turns Twitter upside down
Apple has not yet made a statement about the claims. But the group basically insists that apps must delete hate speech and calls for violence if they want to be available in the store. The Parler application, used by many Donald Trump supporters (76), was also banned for this reason.
As the new boss, Musk is determined to bring freedom of expression back to practice. According to him, this was limited. Unlocked recently blocked accounts. Including those blocked for homophobic and racist statements.
In recent years, Twitter has become increasingly consistent in its fight against hate speech, calls for violence and misinformation.
Is Apple really advertising less?
However, it is unclear whether Apple is now advertising on Twitter. It has also not been confirmed whether this is related to the purchase of the platform.
According to advertising research firm Pathmatics, Apple spent $131,600 advertising on Twitter from November 10-16. From October 16 to October 22, the week before Musk bought the platform, Apple spent $220,800 advertising on Twitter. (EU)
