“I’ve been working over 75 hours thanks to Musk!”

These are tough times for Twitter employees. Since Elon Musk (51) bought the text messaging service for $40 billion, there is no road left unturned. And not a day goes by without negative headlines.

Affected employees are speaking now. Like Sinead McSweeney. The Twitter executive told the Irish Times: “I’ve been working more than 75 hours a week since Elon Musk took over the company. He’s fired too many people!” And “without any discernible logic”. The Twitter head of communications says his job has gotten significantly more difficult since the US billionaire took over.

The pressure has increased greatly

But he doesn’t just criticize long working hours. McSweeney can’t do that with Musk’s leadership style, either. “He leads in an unorthodox way. And it sends mixed messages to employees,” he says. As an employee, you never know what you’re up against.

There have been major layoffs since Elon Musk took over the reins of Twitter. The multi-billionaire believes he can do without half of his workforce. The pressure on the remaining employees increased accordingly. Many are afraid of losing their job and being hugged. Not so Sinead McSweeney. He is battling the threat of impeachment in court.

“An extremely strict corporate culture”

He has been working for Twitter in Ireland for over a decade. “I regularly work more than the contractually stipulated 40 hours,” she says. No problem. But 75 hours is definitely too much.

That’s why he didn’t accept the “extremely strict corporate culture” as Musk requested from his employees via email. He can continue his work for now. At first, the court agreed with him. (be)
