IG Parahotellerie Schweiz reported on Thursday that the summer and autumn seasons went very well. The number of overnight stays and sales reached new record values, as a survey of the five members of IG Parahotellerie (BnB Switzerland, Interhome, Reka, Schweizer Jugendherbergen and TCS Camping) showed.
It is said that for the first time since the epidemic, many Swiss guests are spending their summer and autumn holidays abroad. In return, significantly more guests from abroad traveled to Switzerland. At holiday home broker Interhome, these trends offset each other, resulting in bookings and sales just slightly below the previous year and significantly higher than in pre-crisis 2019.
Overnight stays in youth hostels increased by 25 percent compared to the previous year. This is equivalent to a new peak in occupancy. “Municipal services in particular have far exceeded expectations,” says CEO Janine Bunte.
Campsites, on the other hand, could not build on the corona-related explosion. The number of overnight stays decreased by 10 percent compared to the previous year. Compared to 2019, this still represents a 42 percent increase.
Reka resorts also reported a slight decline compared to the record summer of 2021. Here, the weak months of May and June had a dampening effect on the summer result. Reka Director Roger Seifritz said in a statement that the occupancy rate at the new Lugano-Albonago resort is “excellent”.
The level of reservations made for the upcoming winter season gives the sector optimism. Members of IG Parahotellerie expect the positive trend to continue.
For example, a 20 percent increase was recorded in the reservations of Swiss youth hostels at the end of October compared to the same period last year. According to the research, holiday homes also increased by around 8 percent. Reka villages are still behind the previous year’s booking level, especially as Christmas week is already packed.
