Switzerland is in the mood to buy

Almost half of those surveyed said they would not need to limit themselves in the coming months. One in three people expect only minor restrictions, while 12 percent think they will have to tighten their belts significantly.

The Swiss survey clearly contradicts the situation in Germany. One in three respondents expect significant restrictions in Switzerland’s northern neighbor, while only 18 percent believe that things will continue as before for them.

“We’ve been hearing about the worsening of consumer sentiment for the past few weeks. Dagmar T. Jenni, Director of the Swiss Retail Federation, commented on the survey results, “However, retailers have not noticed anything like this in stores until now.”

That’s good news before the Christmas business, which is important to the retail business, begins. Thanks to its great purchasing power and the very good labor market situation, the Swiss population has to make far fewer cuts than in neighboring countries.
