Swiss cable cars draw a positive summer balance

Although the weather was extremely hot in October, the population enjoyed the weather on the plains, Swiss cable cars reported on Tuesday. The industry association closed its summer balance sheet with 13 percent sales growth and five percent more first entries compared to the five-year average.

In the summer, the cable cars took advantage of the heat in the plains. International tourism also revived compared to the previous year. According to Seilbahnen Schweiz, sales increased by over 70 percent and initial entries by 43 percent, particularly in Central Switzerland.

The Bernese Oberland and the regions of Vaud and Friborg in eastern Switzerland experienced an above-average summer season. According to the announcement, the summer balance in Valais and Graubünden was similar to last year. It was worse than last year in Ticino.

In the five-year average, Vaud and Friborg came to the fore. They have increased their turnover and first entries by 40 percent. Graubünden increased sales by almost a third on a five-year average, but first-time entrants increased by seven percent. In the Bernese Oberland, first-time entries fell 4 percent and sales increased by nearly a fifth.

What is the forecast for winter? Despite the already high price increases, it is possible for skiers and snowboarders to get their ski passes at similar prices in many places as in previous years.

At the request of the AWP news agency, the industry association said in October that some ski areas will be betting the same prices, and many less than a 3 percent increase. Only a few mountain railroads can account for an increase of more than 5 percent.
