Jeff Bezos (58) has thick skin when it comes to lawsuits. The Amazon founder has been dragged to court multiple times by employees. It is mostly related to the poor working conditions in the warehouses of the e-commerce retailer.
Now it turns out: Bezos seems tough on his employees, even in his own home. The multi-billionaire was sued in his hometown of Seattle, Washington, by his maid’s former boss.
Your claims are very clear. It is said that the housekeeper and other domestic personnel are not given legally required breaks to eat and go to the toilet. Worse still: According to their own statements, the plaintiff and his colleagues had to step out of the laundry room window in order to comfort themselves.
Pause only when Bezos is gone
Consequences of suppressed toilet breaks: According to the indictment, some of the domestic workers got urinary tract infections. Most of the staff did not realize that they were entitled to meal and rest breaks. They worked for 14 hours nonstop. Looks like they just took a break while Bezos and his family were away.
So what does the super-rich Bezos say? Through his lawyers, he says the allegations are unfounded. And that the cleaners are responsible for their own breaks. There were also adequate bathrooms and rest rooms. (pbe)
