Whatsapp already announced in April that there will be innovations in group chats. Now is the time: The new “Communities” functionality will be available worldwide in the next few months. Whatsapp announced this in a blog post on Thursday.
The new “Communities” functionality should allow users to better organize their work in group chats. With the function, group chats in Whatsapp can be assigned to so-called “communities”.
Information for parents in schools
Within a community, you can now switch between related group conversations on different topics. Admins can also post important updates to the entire community.
The new community function aims to make things easier for schools, among other things. This way, management can more easily send information to parents and create different groups for private courses, extracurricular activities or volunteers within a community.
Polls and giant groups
Whatsapp is also introducing other minor innovations, some of which were not mentioned in April. For example, groups of 1024 people can now be created. Previously, the limit was 256.
And soon video calls with up to 32 people will be possible. 8 people finished so far.
And surveys can soon be done in groups. So if you’re planning a nice meal, all group members can vote on whether they prefer spaghetti or pizza.
In addition, Whatsapp, meanwhile, announced some of the innovations it put into practice in April. You can now reply to messages with emojis. Admins can delete irrelevant or problematic messages from chat for all users.
