Verified accounts on Twitter should cost money

Until now, icons with checkmarks were available for free, which guaranteed the authenticity of the Twitter profile. However, it is mostly available to users with many followers such as celebrities, companies and politicians or journalists.

On Monday night, tech blogs “Platformer” and “The Verge” reported that verification marks should only be available to customers of the Twitter Blue subscription offer. It currently costs $4.99 per month.

Developers have a week

“The Verge” also wrote, citing knowledgeable people and internal communication, that verification should be part of a new, more expensive version of Blue. Twitter charges $19.99 a month for this. The software developers were given a deadline of November 7 to launch the function – or they would be fired.

Musk only wrote on Twitter on Sunday that the verification process is currently being revised. He paid nearly $44 billion for Twitter. The money came in part from the sale of its stake in electric car maker Tesla – but it also came from investor contributions and loans to service. Twitter has been in the red lately.
