Andreas Berger will take over as chairman of Swiss Re from July.

At Swiss Re, there will be a changing of the guard at the top level of the company in the middle of the year. The reinsurer’s board of directors appointed Andreas Berger (57) as Group CEO as of July 1, 2024. He will replace Christian Mumenthaler, who will resign.

Berger joined Swiss Re in March 2019 as CEO of Enterprise Solutions and a member of the Executive Board, according to the announcement Wednesday. He previously held various management positions at companies such as Boston Consulting Group, Gerling and Allianz. The 57-year-old German national is also chairman of the board of directors of the International Insurance Society and a board member of Advance, a Swiss initiative for gender equality in business.

Berger is said to be stepping down from his current role as CEO of Enterprise Solutions after taking the CEO position, but the selection process for his successor has already been initiated.

Current CEO Christian Mumenthaler, who resigned in July, has been CEO since July 2016. He has been working at Swiss Re for 25 years. (SDA/kae)
