CSS’s corporate profit fell by 28 percent to 39.1 million francs in 2023, the group announced on Tuesday. In addition to high healthcare costs, a weakening economy, falling purchasing power and rising interest rates have made conditions even more difficult.
While premium income increased by 3.5 percent to 6.98 billion francs, the number of customers increased slightly compared to the previous year, reaching 1.70 million. Of these, 1.53 million are insured under the compulsory CSS basic insurance (+29,500 insured).
On the cost side, damage and benefits expenses increased by 9.1 percent to 6.63 billion francs, with an increase of 8.0 percent in basic insurance. The reason for this was the operations postponed due to the pandemic. Spending on medications and doctor visits also increased.
Financial markets showed a positive development in terms of CSS. Return on investment rose to 2.9 percent in 2022 after remaining in negative territory at -6.4 percent. (SDA)
