Coop’s home electronics chain has been part of everyday Swiss consumption for decades. But Interdiscount has been going on for years. After almost 20 years the shops look dusty, they are nothing more than “state of the art”.
No wonder the discount chain is working on a new sales concept recently. The media had the opportunity to review what came out this week. Blick was on Löwenstrasse in Zurich where the new flagship store was unveiled.
This will be followed by three more stores based on the new concept by the end of the year. However, the concept will not be finally implemented in all branches until 2024. As Interdiscount spokesperson Blick emphasized, “The new store concept focuses on the individual needs and interests of customers”.
What is really new?
But what is really new? With the redesign, the Coop subsidiary is trying to look clearer and fresher. The number of products in the store has decreased significantly. A spokesperson for Interdiscount emphasizes that inventory for collectors will remain the same.
Striking: Bestsellers and most popular brands are prominently displayed in so-called “hero boxes”. They are located centrally at eye level. Product suppliers can also rent and advertise them.
The television segment will also shrink, but product diversity should not be lost as a result. Also new: You can print protective film for your mobile phone or tablet for all common models. The discounter is convinced that this type of service is necessary these days.
Located in the center of the branch, the cash register is also a consultation center with seating and computers for instant orders and product comparisons.
nameless bear
The result: it’s not a quantum leap after all. For example, the person seeks self-controls in vain, but they still come. Price tags are also made of paper, not digital.
As another innovation, Interdiscount introduced the “Identity Bear”. A mascot that offers specials anywhere in the store, such as bargains, bestsellers, or new products. What seems a bit odd: The Interdiscount mascot still doesn’t have a real name. There are trademark reasons for this, the spokesperson explains.
