The Swiss Hail Insurance Company (Swiss Hagel) announced on Wednesday that more than half of the total costs are caused by hail. About 30 percent of the damage is caused by drought. This was particularly evident in maize and sugar beet in Western Switzerland. Storm damage accounted for nearly a tenth of the total. Arable crops, vegetables, wine, fruit and berries were severely affected.

Schweizer Hagel insures agricultural products from farmers in Switzerland and neighboring countries such as France and Italy. In addition, the insurance company insures pigs, dairy cattle and laying hens against animal epidemics. Swiss Hagel insured agricultural crops worth 4.1 billion francs in 2023.
