Cooperative members confirmed this by voting: Migros must remain alcohol-free. All ten regions spoke in favor of it in the vote in June 2022. So far, so good. But it is not consistent with the retailer’s stance.
The orange giant sells Camille Bloch’s chocolate eggs at Easter. Optionally with kirsch, cognac or Williams. And not only that: There is even a half-page advertisement for Schnapps eggs in the in-house “Migros Magazine”.
It’s not even clearly stated on the packaging that the pralines contain up to 10 percent cherry, cognac or Williams. This information is included in the ingredient list only.
“Fundamentally, I am not against alcohol consumption.”
It’s inconvenient for parents whose kids quickly throw a few chocolate eggs into the car in whining territory. Or for the dry alcoholics who believe that everything in Migros is alcohol-free. So how does selling fit into the coordination of cooperative members?
Gottlieb Duttweiler spoke out against the sale of alcoholic beverages, the press department reported. However, as the founder of Migros, he was not fundamentally against all forms of alcohol consumption.
Migros branches always had a variety of products with small amounts of alcohol, such as Zug cherry cake, ice cream, sauces or ready-made fondue. Migros says, “These are not contrary to the spirit of the founder of Migros.” Migros says it “naturally” complies with legal regulations regarding the ambiguous labeling at Eili.
