Do you want to travel free of charge to Germany via Lake Constance with SBB General Abo (GA)? This has been possible so far. But now, shortly before the start of the season, there is something new, as a Blick reader noticed. He angrily reported to the editorial office: “Without prior notice, the GA is suddenly no longer valid on Lake Constance.”
Markus Wilda, spokesman for the Swiss Lake Constance shipping company, says this is not entirely true. It confirms that GA is in fact excluded from validity in some German ports. They wanted to notify customers before the season started on Good Friday.
Rules are standardized
It particularly concerns the German ports of Mainau, Wasserburg, Lindau and Bregenz in Austria. “So far the regulations have been inconsistent and the GA was considered a goodwill gesture,” Wilda told Blick. «Other German ports were always outside the GA area – Unteruhldingen, Meersburg, Hagnau, Immenstaad and Langenargen. Regulations are now standardized, leading to greater fairness.” GA is now accepted as a half-fare travel card in all destinations in the neighboring country.
At least: GA is still valid on the car ferry from Romanshorn to Friedrichshafen, which is part of public transport. And: “GA clearly remains valid as usual at all Swiss landing stations.”
