Switzerland prepares for cold winter

Saving heating costs and energy is very popular among Swiss people. More and more people say that they turn on the heating in their four walls less than in other years, or that they do not work at all. As a retail trade survey by Blick confirms, many people rely on well-tried helpers at home to keep them comfortably warm in bed.

Demand for bedding bottles skyrocketed at Digitec Galaxus, Switzerland’s largest online retailer. In early August, customers ordered 93 percent more hot water bottles than in the same month last year. When asked by Blick, a Digitec-Galaxus spokesperson said orders rose 245 percent in September. “Actually, bed bottles are very popular with our customers right now.”

Also in Lidl Switzerland, products from the heating sector are currently in high demand, as indicated on demand. Candles included.

Turtleneck sweaters made of cashmere and cotton are particularly popular at the Coop retailer. As Coop reports, slippers are also in greater demand than before. This keeps your feet warm even when the floor is colder.

The Federal Council’s calls for energy conservation seem to be reaching the public. The electricity consumption figures of Swiss grid operator Swissgrid have also recently revealed this. In September, Swiss households and companies used 13 percent less electricity than usual.
