No additional eye test for new driving license category
People who currently hold a learner’s license or driver’s license will not have to take a new eye exam as of March 1, 2024, if they want to purchase a new ID category. Longer practical driving test
From 1 March 2024, practical tests for categories A (motorcycles over 35 kW) and B (motor vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and with a capacity for nine passengers) must be run for at least 45 minutes on public transport. Previously, the minimum travel time on public roads was 30 minutes.

Innovation in seat reservation at SBB
Starting from March 2024, seat reservations on the SBB website will be subject to change. This emerges from a statement from SBB. In response to Blick’s question, an SBB spokesperson confirmed: “Seat reservations on Sbb.ch will probably be possible again from next week.” The March innovation is only valid for travel within Switzerland. “For round-trip trips abroad, the type of seat that can be selected depends on the relevant partner railway,” the spokesperson continued. As of March 2024, nothing will change here.
It will still not be possible to reserve an exact seat or choose a seat according to the direction of travel or vice versa. So what changes? “Seats are distributed according to a fixed logic, with priority given to window seats or seats in the same compartment if there is more than one person,” explains the SBB spokesperson. And also: “In the travel center and contact center it has always been possible to choose the seat type (window/aisle) when booking.” This will now also be possible via the website.

Good news: From March 2, 2024, more trains will be able to pass through the Gotthard Base Tunnel again. SBB wrote this in a statement. In the future, 38 passenger trains will pass through the tunnel on weekends instead of 31. Three trains will run from north to south on Saturday morning, and four more trains will run from south to north on Sunday afternoon.

More money for refugees in the canton of Aargau
Asylum seekers, temporarily admitted persons and those seeking protection from Ukraine will receive more money for food in the canton of Aargau from 1 March 2024 – a total of 8.50 francs per day. This is 50 centimeters more than before. The Aargau State Chancellery said the increase made it possible to “(partially) compensate for the increase in food prices”.
The adjustment results in additional costs of approximately 1.1 million francs per year. 8,500 refugees live in Aargau. The daily rate of 8 francs has been in effect since 2018 and is quite low compared to the rest of Switzerland.
