The number of direct flights, number of passengers, tourist attractions, food, accommodation and public transportation prices were examined. The cost of a weekend trip for two was calculated. This then resulted in a score.

A trip to Spain is worth it
Spain is the only European country that managed to be among the fifteen most affordable travel destinations for 2024. However, this figure is twice as high. There are the same number of flight connections, but the capital lags behind Barcelona in terms of passenger frequency. Accommodation, restaurant meals and excursions are slightly more expensive in Barcelona than in Madrid.
From a Swiss perspective, other affordable travel destinations are not very close by. The closest place is probably Istanbul, which comes in fourth place: nowhere else are there so many direct flights. Compared to the top 3, food and accommodation are slightly more expensive in Turkey’s capital.
Wethrift also determined which tourism destinations will be the most expensive in 2024. Florence, Italy, ranks first. If you want to spend the night there, you’ll have to dig deep into your pockets. It will also be expensive for tourists traveling to Belfast, Ireland. Sydney, Australia, ranks third.
