As Wyss noted in an interview with Tamedia published on Friday, Albanian tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis, strawberries and tangerines will complement products from Spain in the future.

Excessive water consumption is a big problem for Spain. Therefore, the retailer looked for alternatives. Greece or Romania can also be considered. One third of Romania’s agricultural land lies fallow. “But larger pieces of land are difficult to acquire for historical reasons,” Wyss said.

Raw materials such as cocoa also come from abroad. “Due to the fact that the prices of cocoa and sugar are too high, we will increase some prices of products made with these raw materials,” the retailer’s president said. Negotiations with suppliers regarding price demands continue.
