California and Stadler signed an agreement for six more hydrogen trains, according to an announcement made Thursday evening. The trains will be purchased by the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) and Caltrans.

According to information obtained, this is a contract option that the state of California implemented within the scope of a contract signed in October 2023. With this order, California expands its hydrogen fleet to ten vehicles. No financial details were provided about the additional order reported at this time. The original contract included the option to purchase up to 25 trains.

“Together with this award and other successes in the USA, Germany, Italy, Austria and Lithuania, Stadler reaffirms its leading position in alternative and resource-saving drives with batteries and hydrogen,” said the Thurgau-based company. More than 150 rolling stock powered by batteries or hydrogen have already been sold.
