There will be a 24-hour air traffic strike in Italy on Friday. CUB and FLAI unions are calling field staff in our southern neighbor to protest. This also has implications for the Swiss airline Swiss. Following the warning strike in Germany, this is the second incident in which the airline has had to cancel flights in a very short period of time.
Two return flights to Bologna (I) and Milan (I) and one return flight to Venice (I) will not operate on Friday, Switzerland announced on Thursday. Later flights will also take place. However, passengers will have to expect delays.
What’s going on with our neighbors?
As soon as the strike in Germany ends, a new one begins. Many planes were grounded at airports in Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf on Wednesday and Thursday. The Verdi service union had invited Lufthansa ground staff to a 27-hour warning strike.
In the background is ongoing collective bargaining for employees in the field at German Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Cargo and other group companies. More than 100,000 passengers were affected.
Last week, there were strikes among security personnel at German airports. This strike also affected thousands of passengers from Switzerland. (SDA/wgr)
