An episode of “The Bear” for breakfast, the season finale of “The Crown” for lunch and the current ice hockey match in the evening. TV streaming services are more popular than ever in Switzerland: 58 percent of people use Netflix, Disney Plus, Mysports and Co. Deciding on one of the numerous providers is not that easy.

Especially since many platforms offer different subscription models! Netflix alone offers three different versions in Switzerland. For example, they differ in terms of image quality. Online comparison platform Moneyland now provides some guidance in the publishing jungle with an extensive price and offer comparison.

The biggest streaming services in comparison

Provider monthly price resolution simultaneous streams
Amazon Prime Video 9.99 francs 4k 3
AppleTV+ 10.90 francs 4k 6
Disney Plus Standard with Ads 7.90 francs Full HD (1080p) 2
Disney Plus Standard 12.90 francs Full HD (1080p) 2
Disney Plus Premium 17.90 francs 4k 4
Netflix base 11.90 francs HD (720p) one
Netflix standard 18.90 francs Full HD (1080p) 2
Netflix Premium 24.90 francs 4k 4
pure net cinema 1.99 euros Full HD (1080p) one
Netzkino Plus 4.99 euros 4k 2
Paramount Plus 12 francs 4k 2
Sky Show Cinema 9.90 francs 4k 2
Sky Show Entertainment 14.90 francs 4k 4
Sky Show Entertainment and Cinema 19.90 francs 4k 4

The differences in resolution are huge; 4k delivers images that are nine times sharper than HD (720p). For most people, context is more important when making a choice: which TV shows and movies or which sports are shown.

Speaking of sports: ice hockey, football, etc. Local providers are much more expensive than movies and TV series.

I also notice that many streaming providers have made their offerings much more expensive in recent years. This applies to both sports providers and traditional providers of movies and series. Price increases were by far above normal inflation.

According to the evaluation, Dazn customers experienced the highest price increase (+171 percent). But Apple TV Plus (+82 percent) and Disney Plus Premium (+81 percent) are also increasingly asking customers to pay more.

“Strategy of streaming services: First win new customers with low prices, then increase prices dramatically,” says Moneyland telecom expert Ralf Beyeler (45).

Top dog Netflix, in particular, often raises prices. In small steps, but already several times. With one exception: the cheapest subscription has remained the same since the US streaming giant entered the Swiss market in 2014 at 11.0 francs. But the offer probably won’t last long: Moneyland predicts that Netflix will soon replace its cheapest subscription in Switzerland with one with advertising. This has already happened in many places abroad.
