Switzerland and its economy are struggling with stubbornness: this is the diagnosis made by Swiss Life President Rolf Dörig (66). He criticizes the interaction between banks and insurers. “A lot of people just look at their immediate personal interests and don’t think about everything anymore,” he says in an interview with “NZZ”.

He also criticizes other businessmen in Switzerland. “Most of my colleagues understand Switzerland, but they are ready to sacrifice the common interests of the country for short-term economic interests,” he says and makes it clear. “I’m really ashamed of this.” Companies are part of society and they rely on the population to understand them.

FDP to SVP

Dörig had switched from the FDP to the SVP about a year earlier, as he explained in an interview with Blick at the time. He is also against the new edition of the framework agreement as currently being discussed. We need a clear relationship with the EU, but: “According to the OECD, 90 percent of economic growth in the next 20 years will occur outside Europe,” he says. “Do we have to allow ourselves to enter this market at an unacceptable price as currently planned?”

He sees an alternative to a more advanced free trade agreement or a deal similar to the one Great Britain has. But in fact, it is doubtful to what extent the European Union will accept such a solution. The Union has already been repeatedly needling Switzerland on economic issues. (brother)
