Investor Samih Sawiris (66) can continue to develop his life’s work in the Andermatt-Sedrun destination. Andermatt Swiss Alps AG (ASA) has received the construction permit for the Dieni resort.
This means that for the first time ASA will be able to implement a larger construction project on the Grisons side of the destination, the company said in a statement on Thursday. At the end of the valley, 13 buildings with a total of 410 hotel rooms will be built in Sedrun/Dieni by 2029. Additionally, 119 additional residences are offered for sale. Construction is planned to start in 2026.
This means that almost the same number of hotel rooms will be built on the Graubeğen side as in Andermatt. But the number of flats is much less: More than 700 flats have been built in Andermatt, ASA spokesman Stefan Kern told the AWP news agency when asked.
More than 600 million investments are planned
Moreover, the positioning is completely different: the Dieni resort is aimed at families and groups in the 3-star segment, while Andermatt is positioned higher in the 4-star category.
Therefore, investments in the village of Graubeğen are quite low: An investment of approximately 170 million francs is planned here. Kern says that approximately 1.5 billion was invested in Andermatt.
Another 600 million francs are expected to flow into the destination over the next few years. US mountain railway owner Vail Resorts plans to invest over a hundred million francs in the mountain. (SDA/smt)
