Who is the biggest? Right now it’s Microsoft again.

Yesterday Thursday, the software company based in Redmond, near Seattle in the US state of Washington, replaced rival Apple, based in Cupertino, near San Francisco, California, as the world’s most valuable company.

The start of the year was different for the two companies. Microsoft’s share value increased by 1.5 percent to 2 billion 888 billion dollars. On the other hand, Apple lost up to 3 percent and fell to 2 billion 887 billion dollars in market valuation, falling behind Microsoft for the first time since 2021.

Artificial intelligence beat iPhone

Microsoft’s success is based on its leadership in the race for productive AI (artificial intelligence). The exchange rates Microsoft’s position extremely favorably due to its participation in ChatGPT provider OpenAI. Microsoft backed this up with strong sales growth in 2023.

At Apple, concerns about the iPhone dominate the news. Sales of Apple’s most successful product have recently fallen below expectations. This also has to do with the trade war between the US and China, which has weakened Apple’s business in China. Recently Apple has had to report sales declines several times.

Although “weakness” isn’t quite the right word: Apple shares are up significantly, over 40 percent in the past year. Meanwhile, those from Microsoft are up more than 60 percent.
