More than 200 Swiss companies are already using Microsoft’s new AI assistant.

Microsoft has been offering its artificial intelligence assistant Copilot to Swiss customers since November. More than 200 companies and startups have used it since then, as Microsoft Switzerland boss Catrin Hinkel (54) said in an interview with “NZZ am Sonntag”. Technology creates meeting minutes, for example.

“It is noteworthy that Swiss companies are advancing relatively quickly when it comes to new technologies such as artificial intelligence. “Switzerland plays a leading role when it comes to innovations,” continued Hinkel. Can’t say yet when Copilot will be available to private customers.

It is also too early to predict what impact the European Union’s (EU) new artificial intelligence regulation will have on Microsoft’s offerings. “In principle, we welcome the EU’s regulation of artificial intelligence,” Hinkel said.

The world’s first artificial intelligence law is coming

Negotiators from the European Parliament and EU countries agreed on a corresponding law at the beginning of December. According to the EU Parliament, this is the world’s first artificial intelligence law. The European Parliament and the states still need to approve the project, which is considered a formality. Accordingly, artificial intelligence systems need to be divided into different risk groups. The higher the potential dangers of an application, the higher the requirements should be. Our hope is that the rules will be copied around the world.

The country manager said that for Microsoft, it is clear that people make the decisions and therefore bear responsibility. That’s why the technology is called Copilot. “The person is the pilot and therefore has responsibility for the aircraft,” Hinkel said. (SDA/kae)
