Ukraine war, Middle East powder keg and fear that the Taiwan conflict could trigger an armed conflict between China and the USA: The World Economic Forum (WEF), held in Davos GR from 15 to 19 January 2024, is advertising with the slogan: Rebuilding Trust» , rebuilding trust.

But there’s one thing you can count on every year: In Europe’s highest city, when the world’s elite are guests, nightly prices rise to dizzying levels.

With just a few days left until the event kicks off, there are only about two dozen accommodations available on the Airbnb platform. The cheapest apartment is sold for 1,113 francs per night. One-bedroom and two-bed apartment “small but nice” – a real bargain.

Otherwise, there is no holiday apartment in the history of WEF for less than 2,000 francs per night. In most accommodation you’ll pay between 2,000 and 6,000 francs. There are also a handful of apartments costing more than 7,000 francs.

The most expensive is a “bright, pleasant apartment with 2.5 rooms” for up to two guests, rented by a private person in Davos Dorf. The host promises “breathtaking views of the Davos mountains” and charges 8,500 francs per night. The cost, including cleaning and Airbnb service fees, is 9,855 francs. If you want to stay all week, from Monday to Saturday, you have to pay almost 50,000 francs.

Luxury should not be expected for this. There’s a reason why the balcony table is foldable; the furniture seems to have been put together according to the motto “tough but simple”.

Booking.com’s most expensive accommodation offers more comfort: 150 square meters, ultra-modern furniture, three bedrooms and a large terrace. Small drawback: the nightly cost of entertainment is 14,511 francs.

The price of the cheapest hotel room still available seems almost ridiculous in comparison: a room with a double bed costs 2,212 francs on the booking platform. Breakfast is already included in the price; However, guests must use the shared bathroom. But this shouldn’t bother most WEF visitors.
