Not yet successful: Beond’s luxury Airbus flies to the Maldives.

Beond’s luxury Airbus plane has been flying to the Maldives from Munich and Zurich since November. 44 business class seats aim to take passengers to the south comfortably. But the new airline is still far from reaching its target of at least 75 percent capacity utilization. As Aerotelegraph wrote, on the first flights there were sometimes fewer than 15 passengers on board, and sometimes fewer than ten. There was only one passenger on a plane taking off from Munich.

So is the neo-airline a flop? “Holidays vary in length for a holiday destination like the Maldives and it will take some time for our schedule to align with customers’ schedules,” a Beond spokesperson said. Currently they are happy with the performance and market response. There are flights that are full, and there are also flights that are less busy.

Soon 60 destinations will be served

Compared to other Maldives flights in business class, Beond certainly offers an attractive price-performance ratio. Compared to Swiss sister company Edelweiss, passengers save more than 1,000 francs on the return flight, depending on the flight date. But there’s a problem: Since Beond uses a smaller Airbus A319, the plane has to stop in Dubai to refuel. This extends the flight by an hour.

In addition to Munich and Zurich, the luxury airline now operates flights to the Maldives from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Bangkok and Milan are planned to follow in the summer. In addition to the Airbus A319, another aircraft, the A321, will also join the fleet.

Over the next five years, the airline aims to grow to 32 aircraft and 60 destinations. Additional luxury entertainment destinations will be flown to. As Beond strategy director Max Nilov reported, seven luxury leisure markets comparable to the Maldives have already been selected. (Snap)
