The US health authority FDA had previously warned of possible problems. This can lead to excessive helium pressure and, in the worst case, explosion. The FDA classified the recall as a “Class 1” case, the highest alert level. There are currently 340 of these systems in circulation, 150 of which are in the United States.
The recall represents another defeat for Dutch in the United States. For more than two years, Philips has had problems with some of its inhalers for sleep therapy. An insulating foam was processed into them, from which particles emerged. The cost of recalls and measures for known legal disputes exceeds one billion euros. (SDA)
