The new SBB calendar for 2024 will come into force on Sunday. Better connections to tourist destinations such as Valais or Graubsunu are envisaged.

According to SBB, the new tariff is expected to bring additional connections to places where demand is growing the most. From Sunday, there will be four direct connections between Geneva and Chur, spread throughout the weekend.

An older Regionalps link is being introduced in Valais. Passengers will now be able to reach Bern and Basel earlier from Brig from Tuesday to Sunday. The first train now leaves Upper Valais at 5:16 am. At the same time, the last train in the opposite direction will depart one hour later in the evening. Arriving at Brig at 00.41am.

From Christmas to Easter, Ascension Day, Pentecost and from June to October, a direct train on Saturday mornings connects Zurich with Brig. The train also stops at Frutigen in the Bernese Oberland. A direct train runs in the opposite direction on the same route on Sunday afternoon.

Gotthard remains the bottleneck

There will also be two new direct connections from Zurich to Einsiedeln on weekends from mid-January to early March. Intercity services between Zurich and Chur now run every half hour on weekends all year round. For night owls, there is also a new express connection between Olten and Biel on Friday and Saturday nights.

The timetable change was originally intended to provide half-hourly service via the Gotthard Base Tunnel. This innovation was postponed due to the accident that occurred in the tunnel in August.

Starting from the schedule change, 31 passenger trains will pass through the Gotthard Base Tunnel every weekend. However, from Monday to Thursday, all routes in the Gotthard Base Tunnel must be open to freight traffic. (SDA)
