McDonald’s has more than 41,000 restaurants to date and has announced that it will open 2,000 more by the end of this year.

As a result of new openings, systemwide sales are expected to increase by 2 percent next year and 2.5 percent in subsequent years, according to an announcement made at an investor event.

The key figure includes both McDonald’s-operated stores and restaurants from independent franchisees.

The expansion of the business is part of a multi-year growth plan. McDonald’s also wants to gain significantly more regular customers. McDonald’s expects them to generate $45 billion in systemwide sales by 2027. There are 20 billion so far.
