Switzerland’s central milk processing plant will process and package the cheese in a resource-saving manner on a 14,600 square meter area there, according to a statement on Thursday. It wants to strengthen its position in the US specialty cheese market and also sell more imported Swiss cheese in the US.
Processing and packaging the cheese internally is more efficient and simplifies the processing and logistics process, the statement says. This could halve transportation routes and reduce domestic greenhouse gas emissions accordingly. The system is operated with electrical energy.
According to the information obtained, approximately 125 new jobs will be created in the facility. Emmi operates a total of three manufacturing facilities in the state of Wisconsin. From there, the company supplies specialty cheeses, locally produced and imported from Switzerland, to retailers and food service companies throughout the United States.
