In the secondary sector of the economy, namely industry and construction, total production increased by 1.6 percent in the July-September 2023 period compared to the same period last year, the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) announced on Friday. In fact, sales increased by 4.0 percent.
Industrial production increased by 2.0 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous year, increasing in July, August and September. Sales also increased by 4.5 percent for the entire quarter; the strongest increase occurred in August (+5.3%).
The construction industry is less successful
Overall, industry performed significantly better than construction. Because production in the construction industry decreased by 0.7 percent. Only building construction was effective in this, with a decrease of 8.6 percent.
Civil engineering (+1.8%) and other construction sectors (+3.2%) increased. The construction industry increased sales overall by 1.6 percent. However, building construction also weakened here (-7.4%), while civil engineering (+4.2%) and other construction sectors (+6.7%) increased sales. (SDA)
