Anyone who inherits an apartment worth millions can consider themselves lucky. He either lives in the pearl or sells it for a high price. And that’s it for the next few years. Especially if the apartment is in Richterswil on the left bank of Lake Zurich.

Happy is the one who has no other problems! And yet: it is precisely this case that currently leaves the municipality of Richterswil in a quandary. Because he had inherited a 5.5-room apartment in a perfect location with a view of Lake Zurich from a deceased resident. Estimated value of the property: 1.9 million francs. And an impressive 940,000 francs on top of that. This was reported by the “Zürichsee-Zeitung”.

unfit for the performance of public duties

The lady died in January and left the community as the primary heir, bequeathing the flat to the community. This is stupid: according to the local council, the department is unfit to carry out a public duty. That’s why he wants to sell now. But this request is not that simple. The sale requires approval from the Dec. 7 community meeting.

And yet: Society is happy: “We are very happy about the heritage,” mayor Marcel Tanner tells the “Zürichsee-Zeitung”. He doesn’t know why the wealthy Richterswil woman included the community in her will. He didn’t know the lady. But she obviously didn’t like being the center of attention and lived modestly. And most of all, he really appreciated the neighborhood in the area.

studied in Switzerland

The deceased was born in Berlin in 1938. His father died in World War II. Because everything was missing, including food, he was placed with a foster family in Switzerland. He studied in Switzerland. And she met her husband. The couple remained childless. And he has been living in Richterswil since 1987. He always loved the proximity to the lake and forest.

A community meeting on December 7 will decide what to do next with the apartment. If no one can be found to buy the flat for 1.9 million francs, the municipality wants to auction it to the highest bidder. It would set the minimum bid at 1.8 million francs. They don’t know yet what the community will do with this money.
