McDonald’s is shifting into higher gear. Burger roaster increases the pace of expansion. The plan is to open six restaurants a year.
“Lately, we have been opening one or two branches a year. “We are currently increasing this expansion rate to five to six per year, including in cities,” Lara Skripitsky, McDonald’s Swiss boss, said in an interview with CH Media newspapers.
According to the manager, they are looking for places that can offer space for McDrive in places with strong population growth, such as Riddes in Valais. Restaurants on highways are also “great.”
Skilled labor shortage is not a problem
Despite the growth, McDonald’s has increased prices this year. Beef burgers and fries have become more expensive. “This year the potato harvest in particular was not very good,” admits the Swiss boss of McDonald’s.
He also commented on the current shortage of skilled workers. You don’t notice this much at McDonald’s Switzerland. “We receive an average of 44 applications for each job posting,” Skripitsky said. Specifically, the fast food giant has created 600 (part-time) jobs in Switzerland in 2022.
McDonald’s Switzerland does not want to launch vegan burgers yet, although its rival Burger King offers such products to customers. “There is also a certain demand for this in Switzerland, but it is not very large,” Skripitsky said. However, the demand for vegetarian products is quite high. (SDA/wgr)
