Actors’ union SAG-AFTRA said in a statement on Wednesday (local time) that the strike will officially end at midnight (local time, 9:00 am CET on Thursday morning). It was stated that an “agreement in principle” was reached after the 118-day work stoppage of the players demanding better wages.
According to the union, the agreement signed with companies such as Disney and Netflix provides, among other things, higher wages and better protection against the use of artificial intelligence.
SAG-AFTRA represents the interests of approximately 160,000 actors, stuntmen, dancers and other performers in the film industry.
The union called on its members to strike in July, and shooting in Hollywood has been halted since then. This is the first strike by US actors since 1980.
Hollywood experienced a double strike for the first time in more than 60 years, as US screenwriters had already stopped working before this labor dispute. The screenwriters ended their strike in October.
