The skin care business is no longer running smoothly. The result: Galderma, known among other things as the manufacturer of Daylong sunscreen, is once again taking people to the streets. As Galderma confirmed when asked by Blick, the company will lay off 14 people at its headquarters in Zug and 25 in Lausanne.

This is the second mass layoff at Galderma in a year. Galderma has cut one in five jobs in Switzerland as early as November 2022. Approximately 100 people were affected at that time. Even then, the company said: “We face macroeconomic headwinds such as inflation, supply bottlenecks, geopolitical instability and sharply rising interest rates, and we expect these conditions to continue for the foreseeable future.”

Creating jobs abroad

In fact: Inflation is still stubborn, more and more people have to be careful with their money and can no longer afford high-priced Galderma products. A cheaper sunscreen also provides protection against the sun. So costs need to continue to fall, especially where wages are high. Employees learned about this on Wednesday.

Poor consolation for Swiss employees: Galderma also creates around 20 jobs. But in Barcelona where wages are significantly lower than in Switzerland. A new competence center will be built there. In addition to high-quality skin care products, Galderma also invests and researches in the field of medicines for skin, nail and hair diseases.
