So much for Schröder. He turned his back on the capital. He has been studying in Switzerland for a year and a half and lives and works in Basel. The decisive point was that he learned what he could gain here. Shift work is still part of his job. But in Switzerland there is enough time to meet with patients, and I really appreciate that,” says Schröder.
There is no pressure in the team
The anesthesiology and intensive care specialist nurse also speaks highly of the “comfortable work”. One nurse sees a maximum of two patients. “There is a nurse next to patients on ventilators. In Berlin, two patients on ventilators are cared for on good days. As a rule, on late or night shifts you have one or two awake patients.”
There is no pressure on the team. «You work on equal terms and are always polite and friendly to each other. “We talk to each other and do not delegate,” says Schröder. Surcharges for night service are higher than in Germany. You also have more free time. Further education is also supported and financially rewarded, according to the German online portal.
«Life in Berlin was really stressful. Everything had to happen quickly, quickly. “This was hard for me.” He could no longer live his values and pass them on to his children. In Switzerland, however, there is a fundamental calmness that he admires. “I don’t even think the word ‘stress’ exists here.”
He was finally happy in Switzerland. “I can’t explain it, but the feeling of life is definitely better. Respect between people.” Returning to Germany is out of the question for him: On the contrary: “I regret not taking this step sooner.” (pbe)
