Similasan initially applied for short-term work for employees responsible for the production of U.S. products, the company announced Friday. However, this was rejected by the responsible authority. On October 13, the company launched a consultation process regarding a possible precautionary mass redundancy. This is now complete.
The restructuring, with the “precautionary dismissal” of 27 employees at Jonen, is necessary for the continued existence of the Similasan Group. The company will provide individual support to those affected and will carry out the layoffs in as socially responsible a way as possible.
Similasan comments on FDA’s warning letter
Similasan, the world market leader in natural eye remedies, has grown significantly worldwide and especially in the US market in recent years. Due to this growth, over 40 new employees have been hired at Jonen in the last 18 months. The FDA’s “Warning Letter” issued on September 11, 2023 led to an immediate drop in sales of around 90 percent.
Similasan emphasized that the issues raised regarding products and production facilities in the USA arise mainly from regulations, not from quality and safety deficiencies.
