Ordering groceries to your home is a convenient alternative to shopping at a retailer or discounter. This eliminates the need to carry around heavy shopping bags or six-pack water bottles. However, many providers’ home delivery offers do not seem to be valid.
Discounter Aldi also wants to conquer Swiss households with its Aldi Now delivery service, but is now backing off its offer, CH Media reports. The offer has so far been available to residents of 346 different postal lending areas in the country. “As of November 1, 75 of the current zip code areas will no longer be served,” Aldi said in response to Blick’s question. This is due to the change to the courier delivery service, which is hoped to provide “even more reliable deliveries” for customers. “An adjustment to the delivery area was required to ensure delivery charges remain the same with the change,” Aldi writes.
It’s not just Aldi that’s reducing its delivery offer
Aldi’s delivery service is in testing. It turns out that people in urban areas are more willing to do their grocery shopping online. In order to maintain current delivery schedules, deliveries can only be made to areas where demand is high enough. “Depending on how the testing phase progresses, a renewed activation or even expansion to new postcode areas at a later date is on the cards,” says Aldi.
Home delivery services were still quite popular during the pandemic period. Many providers no longer pay the bills. According to CH Media, My Migros distribution service stopped its service at the end of September. For kiosk operators Valora and Migrolino, this process was already over in 2022. The Stash company canceled its bids in Basel and reduced its bids in Zurich. Farmy delivery service also recently had to reduce its offer.
